Nearly 25% of Canadians suffer from chronic pain.
Chronic pain is pain lasting over six months. It can be the result of
a bio medical condition like arthritis or nerve injury but it can also
persist when the original injury has healed.
Dr. Angela Mailis is the Director of the Comprehensive Pain Program at
Toronto Western Hospital. The main causes of chronic pain are
arthritis, back pain, headaches and nerve injury, as is the case with
diabetic neuropathy, or injury to the peripheral nerves after surgery or
trauma.
